Google builds 2 new data centers in Ohio

On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, Google announced its plan to scale its footprint in Central Ohio by building two additional datacenters in Columbus and Lancaster to power its Artificial Intelligence Technology and user tools like Google search, Google Maps, and Gmail. With one datacenter already up and running in New Albany (roughly 31 kilometers northeast of Columbus), the two new data centers will bring Google's total investment in Ohio to more than $2 billion.

The Columbus data center will sit on the Far South Side at the former site of Hartman Farm, located at 5076 S., whereas the Lancaster data center will also sit on former farmland along Whiley Road and just off of U.S. Route 33.
